Olweus Bullying Prevention Program

Rochester Catholic Schools has launched the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP) at each of its four schools. The OBPP seeks to prevent bullying in elementary, middle and high school in order to help make each environment a safe and positive place where students can learn and be successful. OBPP aims to change the norms around bullying behavior and restructure the school setting so that bullying is less likely to occur or be rewarded. OBPP responds to bullying at individual, classroom, school-wide, and community levels.

This long-term, proactive and system-wide approach supports the mission of Rochester Catholic Schools to provide a learning environment that is safe, respectful and honors the dignity of each person. The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program is the most researched and best-known bullying prevention program available today. It was developed by Dan Olweus, Ph.D., of Norway. OBPP has over 35 years of research behind it and has been implemented throughout the world, earning the highest honors a prevention program can attain. It has also received numerous awards from other organizations dedicated to addressing the issue of bullying and violence among children. (www.violencepreventionworks.org)

RCS National OBPP Trainers
RCS has provided resources for two staff members to be certified as Olweus Bullying Prevention Program National trainers. These trainers have in turn trained 35 additional RCS staff members, including teachers, counselors, administrators, and non-teaching staff, to serve as members of Bullying Prevention Coordinating Committees (BPCC) for each of our respective schools.
