“He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.” St. Francis of Assisi
Lourdes High School Fine Arts is dedicated to an integrated awareness of the Arts, giving students an opportunity to discover how each particular expression belongs to a greater wholeness reflective of St. Paul’s reminder to the Corinthians: we possess many gifts, but one Spirit.
Our faculty engages students in the creative process of the Arts, cultivating essential skills, as well as honest reflection and critical thinking. Talent is continuously encouraged toward excellence in expression. We intend for students to discover the difference between “making Art” and “becoming an Artist,” so that the experience of Art is realized as a significant part of one’s spiritual life.
Students may discover drawing, painting, and sculpture, each grounded in the principles of design; acting and stagecraft grounded in the principles of relationship and character-expression; vocal or instrumental music opportunities, grounded in the principles of melody and harmony and rhythm. In every case, we are called upon to remember in the process of teaching and learning, that Artistic expression is a way of knowing and reflecting all ways the Eternal Presence of God.
