Theresa Eckel Chosen as Kiwanis Student of the Month for February

Congratulations to LHS student Theresa Eckel who has been chosen by the Downtown Kiwanis as February’s Student of the Month! Daughter of Laurence and Karol Eckel, Theresa was nominated by the Social Studies Department. Mrs. Averbeck noted, “Theresa is not only knowledgeable about Social Studies topics, but she epitomizes the essence of Social Studies. She empathizes with people of all different cultures and backgrounds and strives to use her knowledge to positively impact the world, as evidenced by her leadership in the Red Lake Food Drive. Theresa manifests the perfect intersection of intelligence and community action.”

She has notably been involved in several extracurricular activities including: Founder and Director of the Red Lake Food Drive (3 years), Founder and Director of the Red Lake Summer Trip (2 years), Varsity letter and Junior Varsity Captain of the Lourdes Girls Soccer Team (5 years), Member and Editor of the Lourdes Eagle Online Newspaper (4 years), Member of the World Cultural Club (4 years), Member of the Lourdes Debate Team (3 years) and Cashier at Panera Bread.

Among the variety of awards Theresa has received are: President’s Volunteer Service Award (2017), Bronze Distinguished Finalist for the State of Minnesota in the 2017 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, Principal’s Choice Awards (2013), Consejera Misteriosa Award (2015), National Honor Society (2016-2017) and Academic Honor Roll (every semester).

Theresa plans to attend college and is waiting for notifications from preferred universities. As of now, she is undecided in regards to field of study. Congratulations Theresa, for being nominated as the Downtown Kiwanis Student of the Month for February!
